Automotive Embedded Systems (Online + Lab Kit)

Course Overview

This 7-week training program offers an intorduction to automotive embedded systems. Participants will gain a solid understanding of fundamental controls and software concepts that are currently driving innovation in both conventional and electric vehicles.

  • Class Schedule: 2 hours every Saturday
  • Delivery Mode: Online lectures via Zoom/Google Meet and Kit for hands-on lab projects

The training is open to anyone interested in automotive controls and software, but it is particularly suitable for:

Week 1: Introduction to Automotive Embedded Systems

  • Lecture Topics: Electronics architecture and ECUs, AUTOSAR, Microcontroller Fundamentals, Development Lifecycle, Safety
  • Lab: Digital I/O – Door Ajar and Dashboard Warning System

Week 2: Analog Sensing and Environmental Monitoring

  • Lecture Topics: ADC principles, Sensor Types, Signal Conditioning and Filtering, Sensor Diagnostics
  • Lab: Cabin Climate and Lighting Control System

Week 3: Visual Feedback and User Interface

  • Lecture Topics: Display technologies, HMI principles, Information prioritization, AUTOSAR, Graphics and text rendering fundamentals
  • Lab: Instrument Cluster Display System

Week 4: PWM and Actuator Control

  • Lecture Topics: PWM principles, Motor controls, Actuator types, AUTOSAR, Closed-loop control basics
  • Lab: Climate Control and Warning System

Week 5: Serial Communication and Multi-Module Systems

  • Lecture Topics: UART/Serial communication protocol, I2C protocol, Automotive communication overview, Message framing, AUTOSAR, Inter-ECU communication patterns
  • Lab: Multi-Module Vehicle Control System

Week 6: Interrupts and Real-Time Control

  • Lecture Topics: Interrupt handling and priorities, Real-time constraints, Periodic vs. event-driven tasks, AUTOSAR, Timing analysis, Deterministic behavior requirements
  • Lab: Advanced Vehicle Controller with Real-Time Constraints

Week 7: System Integration, Diagnostics, and Final Project

  • Lecture Topics: On-board diagnostics concepts, Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs), Fault detection, isolation, and recovery strategies, AUTOSAR, Configuration management, Testing strategies, Limp-home mode implementation
  • Lab: Integrated Vehicle Management System – Final Project
